What you don’t know about Basil and Tulsi

Tulsi for beauty

I have already spoken about meditation in a place where there is a Tulsi. It’s good to keep your system as it is. Similarly, you can keep your skin beautiful and refreshed by making a face mask in Tulsi. Grind five dry leaves of the Tulsi and use this powder to exfoliate your skin. This will not only get rid of all the dead cells and grime, but also remove all the potential blemishes and skin diseases from your body.

Using the Tulsi Steamer

Add some hot water to your steamer. Add half a teaspoon of lemon juice and a handful of mint leaves and mint. Bring to a boil, cover your face with a towel and let your skin evaporate in this fragrant and lush aromatic vapor. When the water gets lukewarm, you can wash your whole body to get that refreshing mint tingle. It is also an excellent natural deodorant. You can bottle the liquid when it’s cold and use it to wash the sweaty parts of your body to keep the skin cool.

Dark spots

If you have dark spots on your skin, don’t despair. You just have to extract the juice from some Tulsi leaves and add a little lemon juice. Apply it to all the dark areas and wait until the paste is dry. I normally apply the leaves with the juice to my skin. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Do this twice, every day, until those dark spots are gone. If you don’t have lemon juice around, you can use some ginger juice. 10 to 15 drops no more because ginger is more powerful than lemon juice.

Prevention of fever in children

It is a remedy used since ancient times to prevent common childhood ailments and fever in children. This can be done by taking 2g of Tulsi seeds and feeding your children every day. You can also supplement this healthy preventative by giving them the juice of two leaves slightly warmed on a teaspoon.

Whooping cough / dry cough

Do you have a family member with whooping cough or even a dry cough? Just take 1 teaspoon of grated Tulsi leaves and ginger and add them to a teaspoon of honey. Give it once a day until the patient is completely cured from the antiseptic properties of honey and basil.

Traditional cough syrup

It is the traditional cough syrup that is still used in areas where people do not have access to modern medicines or find them too expensive. Take 5g of juice from Tulsi leaves, bishop’s weed and turmeric. Mix them together. Now add 25 g of honey to this mixture and put them in a glass bottle. Give children half a teaspoonful – 30-50 drops of this syrup two or three times a day. You can have a teaspoon, because you are an adult.

This is another remedy given to me by a friend who strongly believes in the beneficial properties of Tulsi and continues to experiment. She used to add 4-5 Tulsi leaves to regular tea that she boiled morning and night. Her kid once caught a cold and gave her two tablespoons of this tea – yes, boiled with tea leaves, milk and sugar – twice a day. She says he was healed in 2-3 days. She now swears that this remedy is an excellent remedy for colds and coughs. I told her that the brewing process in itself was enough to dilute the power of the leaves, but gentle enough to heal a three year old.

Surefire Cold Remedy Powder

I normally do this at the start of winter, so I don’t have to worry about collecting all the ingredients as I could eventually get a cold or the flu. This is when I want to drink something hot, go to bed and hibernate like the rest of the bears.

So when you have time, collect 25g of powdered ginger, black pepper, molasses / jaggery leaves and basil. Powder them together and put them in a glass jar. As soon as you get a cold or fever, take half a teaspoon of this very potent powder and boil it in a glass of water. When you have about a cup, drink it while it is unbelievably hot. Drink this twice a day. No fever, no cough, no cold.

Suffering from a chronic cough?

Now this is a time tested remedy. Take seven black basil leaves – the leaves will be purple and you will normally use them for cooking. Take five peppercorns and mix them together. Prepare small granules and put them in a glass bottle. Take one granule three times a day with water for one week only. Believe it or not, this is the best cure for chronic cough.

Cure eczema

Grind six Tulsi leaves with half a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply it on the affected areas until the eczema is completely healed. Likewise, you can get rid of many skin diseases by making a paste from basil leaves and neem leaves and applying the paste to the affected skin areas.

Skin oil

This is a massage / skin oil, given by an herbalist. She said it would cure all the problems on my skin, while keeping it supple and well hydrated. Take some Tulsi leaves and burn them, mustard oil. When they are cooked, let cool and filter the oil. Apply it on your skin, which has been affected by all kinds of skin ailments. Mustard oil smells, so you can try the same in coconut oil. The moisturizing effect is just as effective, but mustard oil is unrefined, stronger and more potent.

Heal wounds

Make it a part of your herbal medicine cabinet. Dry two handfuls of Tulsi leaves in the shade. Now add 1 tablespoon of powdered alum, grind to a fine powder and filter. Place them in a glass bottle. The next time someone suffers from a cut or sore, you should sprinkle this powder over this mixture and allow the Tulsi to naturally heal the injured tissue.

You can also do this with a mixture of leaf powder and powdered camphor. Everything you find easy to use and readily available.
I got rid of the infection from a cut that had been neglected by washing the area in a decoction of boiled basil leaves, then sprinkling dry leaves on the affected area and bandaging it. This removed all of the infectious material from the scabs while preventing it from turning into water-filled “bubbles”. Continue to renew daily by washing wounds thoroughly and sprinkling with dry basil leaves until complete healing.

Heal burns

If the burns are not very serious and do not require immediate hospitalization, I suggest you compose a mixture of juice of fresh basil leaves in coconut oil and apply it all over the area. This will prevent sores and infections.
